SoftwareApplication Schema Adoption Across 100 B2B SaaS Homepages: Just 21.6%

Direct answer

What share of B2B SaaS homepages use SoftwareApplication schema, and who does it?

In Growthract's 2026 AI Search Readiness Benchmark, only 21 of 97 inspectable B2B SaaS homepages (21.6%) had SoftwareApplication schema — the least-adopted of the four core schema types checked. Companies including Intercom, Zendesk, Atlassian, Dropbox, Zapier, Vercel and Netlify were among those that did.

01

SoftwareApplication schema was the least-adopted of the four core types checked — behind Organization, JSON-LD presence generally, and WebSite schema.

02

Adoption isn't tied to company size or funding — some of the smallest and largest companies in the sample both have and lack it.

03

This type carries real accuracy obligations (price, rating, availability) that likely explain some of the hesitation to add it.

Of the four schema types we checked, SoftwareApplication had the lowest adoption — but the 21 companies that use it span every category in our sample.

Why this type specifically lags

SoftwareApplication schema commonly carries price, rating and availability properties — fields that require ongoing accuracy and carry real policy risk if they drift out of sync with the actual product. Organization schema, by contrast, describes largely static facts (name, logo, URL) that rarely need updating.

That accuracy obligation is likely part of why teams are more cautious here than with simpler identity schema — adding a rating that doesn't reflect a real, verifiable review average is specifically the kind of structured-data misuse Google's guidelines warn against.

If you're going to add it

Only include an aggregateRating or review property if a real, verifiable rating exists. A price, applicationCategory and operatingSystem are lower-risk properties to start with if you're not ready to maintain the rest. A working example is in 12 Schema Markup Examples for AI Search, by Page Type.

FAQs

Should every SaaS company add SoftwareApplication schema?

Only if the page genuinely describes a software product and you can populate its properties accurately. It isn't a general-purpose homepage schema.

Is a lower adoption rate a sign this schema type doesn't matter?

Not necessarily — it may simply reflect caution around the accuracy obligations this type carries, rather than a judgment that it's unimportant.
